Sounds of Freedom brings together some of the country’s best-known musicians to share their thoughts on spirituality and social change. Laurie Anderson, The Indigo Girls, Michael Franti, Michelle Shocked, and Phillip Glass, along with other musicians from a wide range of genres discuss their motivation and commitment to peace, justice and happiness.
Never before have such a variety of recording artists—from those performing hip-hop to punk rock to jazz to classical—appeared together in a single forum to openly discuss their experiences with social change and spiritual growth. Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh writes the foreword to this collection of interviews that invites everyone to realize their own potential for experiencing peace and encourage social change.
The interviews are conducted by journalist and musician John Malkin. His work has been published by Shambhala Sun, Tricycle, Z Magazine, and CNN.
