Poems from Autumn

This morning
The bright moon
Has the sky
All to itself

The rising sun
Turns the tiny dew drops
On the wilted fig leaf
Into shiny diamonds

The birds sing
For those who care to listen
The sun rises
For those who care to watch

As the sun
Climbs higher in the sky
The shadows
Grow shorter on the ground

The cushions
On the chairs
Still damp from the rain
Not cool!

On one tree
Tibetan prayer flags
Between two others
Today’s laundry

Sandwiched between
Two streaks of clouds
Left behind by the planes
The Full Moon

This morning
Even nature
Seems to know
It’s Sunday

Early this morning
The white moon
Still high in the sky
The red sun
Not yet risen
