Free as the Space Between Us

By Ben Brubaker

Dear friend, let us look at the stars.

Stop, look deeply.

Not to escape the suffering

Not to ignore the oppression

Not to forget our history

But to remember where we came from.

Dear friend, let us look at the stars.

Stop, look deeply.

Not to escape the suffering

Not to ignore the oppression

Not to forget our history

But to remember where we came from.

Dear friend, let us look at the stars.

Breathe, look deeply.

Because we are alive in this moment

Because our eyes grant us this miracle

Because our brothers and sisters in prisons around the world

Are denied this view

Because right now, no storms bear down

And threaten our safety.

Look deeply, the night sky is a mirror

Reflecting our true nature.

Dear friend, let us look at the stars.

Smile, look deeply.

Not to erase our differences

Not to numb the pain

Not to transcend the struggle

But to remember that we are light

Exploding across the galaxy

As free as the space between us,

Beloved souls, held together in perfect Oneness

By the gravity of Love.
