Employment and Internships

Parallax Press is a nonprofit publisher cofounded by Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh and Arnold Kotler. Parallax Press was established in 1986 with the publication of Thích Nhất Hạnh’s book Being Peace in sunny Berkeley, California, and we were based in the San Francisco Bay Area until 2025. Our fully remote staff now work from home all over the United States and we plan to move our office in 2026 to Deer Park Monastery, a mindfulness practice center in the Plum Village tradition in Southern California. Our journal of mindful living, The Mindfulness Bell, is published twice a year. We are a part of the thriving Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism.

As mindfulness practitioners who are engaged in the daily work of bringing treasured wisdom to publication, we offer a work environment that is participatory, flexible, energizing, and creative. Our books are distributed by Penguin Random House Publisher Services and available wherever books are sold. We have more than 175 books in print, publish 15 new titles per year, and are continually engaged in growing as publishing professionals and as people.

See below, and check this page in the future, for employment opportunities.

Contract Duration, Time Commitment, and Compensation

  • 3 month duration beginning mid-late March
  • Hours will fluctuate by phase, with higher intensity during campaign build and launch and lighter involvement during planning and wrap-up
  • 120–160 hours total estimated effort across the project
  • $6,000 total compensation; paid monthly or bimonthly by invoice

If this opportunity feels aligned, please share a cover letter and resume describing your relevant experience and interest in the project. Examples of past crowdfunding or community-based work are encouraged.
