Please enjoy reading the good news about meaningful actions that sanghas are taking together in their communities. We will continue to update and expand this as we receive more responses!
Sanghas are engaging with local community by:
- offering free weekly meditations open to everyone
- creating a Community Living Room where marginalized community members are welcome to come in for a cup of coffee or tea, do laundry, take a hot shower, and have someone listen deeply to them
- organizing a volunteer trash clean up in a local creek
- facilitating mindfulness meditation practice in local jails
- volunteering at local food banks
- promoting free hygiene services for community members experiencing homelessness
- offering free art workshops for all ages and abilities
- participating in local protests for human rights
- accompanying migrants’ families, whose loved ones are detained or deported, while observing required court appearances
- raising money for those in need
- forming Beloved Community groups
- excitedly looking forward to doing more projects on a regular basis!
Sanghas are engaging with national and global community by:
- supporting Stand Up for Kids, a national program offering meals and networking needs for teens experiencing homelessness
- mentoring inmates through BAUS, a mail in nationwide prison dharma class program, founded by a student of Thây’s
- creating Ways of Peace solidarity campaign to support humanitarian aid and protective presence (nonviolent accompaniment of communities targeted by systemic violence) in Gaza and the West Bank
- financially supporting a residential school for displaced young girls in India
- joining national postcard writing campaigns to encourage people to vote
- fundraising for World Central Kitchen
- participating in national and global nonviolent protests for human rights
- creating and sending beautiful cards with messages of kindness and support to trans folks in the US through Point of Pride
- signing petitions to urge government officials, corporations, and other influential organizations to take action to reduce harm
